چکیده

REVOLUTIONS can bring both benefits and risks to the people they touch. The livestock revolution , arising from an increasing worldwide demand for animal products (specifically meat, poultry, and milk), is no different. This growing demand is especially prevalent in developing countries, which historically have consumed far less of animal products on a per capita basis than have developed countries.sumption rates of meat and milk in developing countries increased by 70 million and 105 million metric tons, respectively. Rates in developed countries during the same time period increased by 26 million metric tons for meat and 50 million metric tons for milk. Increased demand requires increased production. However, the environmental

a substantial global increase in the demand for food of animal origin, while also aggravating the competition between crops and livestock (increasing cropping areas and reducing rangelands). The livestock revolution 1 is stretching the capacity of existing production, but it is also exacerbating environmental problems. Therefore, while it is necessary to satisfy consumer demand, improve nutriti...

The Correlation between Thermal and Noxious Gas Environments, Pig Productivity and Behavioral Responses of Growing Pigs

Correlations between environmental parameters (thermal range and noxious gas levels) and the status (productivity, physiological, and behavioral) of growing pigs were examined for the benefit of pig welfare and precision farming. The livestock experiment was conducted at a Seoul National University station in South Korea. Many variations were applied and the physiological and behavioral respons...

Commentary: a step towards understanding asthma in low- and middle-income countries.

Children growing up on a farm in Europe or North America have rather consistently been observed to less often suffer from asthma and allergic diseases. 1 The hypothesis of possible protective effects of early life contact with a farming environment has opened a way for new understanding of the asthma and allergy epidemic in the Western world in the past few decades. A recent publication showed ...

Impact of integrated fish farming on antimicrobial resistance in a pond environment.

Integrated fish farming combines livestock production with fish farming. Animal manure is shed directly into a fish pond as fertilizer and supports the growth of photosynthetic organisms. The livestock, mainly chickens and pigs, is often fed feed containing growth promoters. In this study we investigated the impact of integrated fish farming on the levels of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria in ...
